Travel information
With a record number of new UK, European and international flights, as well as direct rail links to the heart of the city centre, travelling to NewcastleGateshead couldn’t be easier.
By air: Newcastle International Airport is served by many airlines providing direct links from top international and UK destinations. The route from the airport to the city centre is one of the fastest in Europe, taking only 22 minutes on the region’s light rail system, the Tyne and Wear Metro. Metro trains run every 5-15 minutes. Taxis to the city centre cost around £15.
By rail: Newcastle Central Station is right in the heart of the city centre and is served by East Coast, CrossCountry Trains and First Transpennine Express; all operating direct services from most major cities in Britain. Times, prices and services may vary throughout the year, and as such all enquiries should be made directly with the appropriate operators. Station facilities include travel information, left luggage, toilets, cafés, a bar, ATMs and a taxi rank.
By road: The A1(M) passes through NewcastleGateshead, linking the area to London, the South, Scotland and major routes across the country. The A69 links west to Carlisle, the Lake District and, via the M6, to the South and West of England. Central car parks are situated only a short distance from all routes and are well signposted throughout the city.
By sea: The North Shields International Ferry Terminal is the North of England’s main sea link with Scandinavia and Northern Europe, and throughout the year DFDS Seaways operates sailings to and from the city. Taxis to the city centre cost approximately £12 from the ferry terminal.
Parking at Gateshead: If you wish to park at the SageGateshead car parking, you can buy a special price pass for £4.00 per day. If you wish to get your pass, please write to conference@cultureactioneurope.org
