Swoboda answers to cultural and creative sectors’ concerns about Creative Europe budget

Following our action with the letter to President Barroso calling to defend the budget of the future Creative Europe programme,  we sent a similar message to relevant members of the European Parliament. Here is the answer we received from MEP Hannes Swoboda, President of the ‘Socialists & Democrats’ group in the EP:

“On behalf of Hannes Swoboda I would like to thank you for your letter regarding the Creative Europe Programme and for sharing your views with him. He agrees that especially in times of crisis increased funding for culture and education at EU level should be of great importance.
President Swoboda is already aware of all the cuts discussed regarding the cultural sector and he shares your concerns and supports the fight against this very low budget.

Still one has to consider that in times of crisis all areas are affected by cuts, so this unfortunately maybe the case for the creative and cultural sectors. Nevertheless S&D Group will do its utmost to ensure sufficient funding in the respective sectors.

Kind regards,

Daniela Geiderer (Office of MEP Hannes Swoboda , President of the S&D Group)”
