Our sustainability policy

Culture Action Europe is committed to operating in an environmentally sustainable manner. We take proactive steps to ensure that our actions are climate-conscious and aligned with eco-friendly practices. By prioritising sustainability in all facets of our actions and practices, we aim to contribute positively to the planet while promoting the vital role of culture in addressing climate challenges.

At Culture Action Europe we acknowledge the connection between human activity and the climate crisis and commit to minimising our ecological footprint, implementing environmentally sustainable practices, and behaving as an example of good environmental practice for our members and other cultural networks.

Our focus is on environmental sustainability, which invariably has strong connections with social sustainability and to a lesser extent economic sustainability.

Accordingly, we aim to achieve very high standards of environmental sustainability throughout our work. This applies both to how we work with others and the way in which we ourselves operate, including anyone working or volunteering with us. In our Sustainability Policy we set out the key areas this policy applies to and how we will approach them.

Culture Action Europe together with 15 other international  cultural networks, is participating in the SHIFT eco-certification pilot phase. The aim of this process is to co-develop a bespoke eco-certification for cultural networks, taking into account their specific needs and working methods. Such a certification, established in partnership with Creative Carbon Scotland and Green Leisure Group, environmental sustainability specialists from Scotland and the Netherlands, will provide a  scheme to improve, measure, monitor and evaluate efforts towards sustainability. This project will also encourage active climate action among the wider cultural sector and create a new alliance of like-minded networks and associations.

Culture Action Europe is proud to have successfully passed the sustainability audit in 2023 and received a certificate.
