#Culture2030 Goal at Mondiacult

September 27, 2022, 12:00 am | September 30, 2022, 12:00 am
27 Sep - 30 Sep 2022

The UNESCO World Conference on Cultural Policies and Sustainable Development – MONDIACULT 2022 will be convened by UNESCO forty years after the first Mondiacult World Conference on Cultural Policies held in Mexico City (Mexico) in 1982, and 24 years after the UNESCO World Conference on Cultural Policies for Development held in Stockholm (Sweden) in 1998. The UNESCO-MONDIACULT 2022 World Conference will be hosted from 28 to 30 September 2022 by the Government of Mexico.

Culture Action Europe, alongside other global cultural networks, have ongoingly advocated for the role of culture in sustainable development in its #Culture2030 Goal campaign. The #Culture2030goal campaign calls for recognising culture as the fourth pillar of sustainable development and advocates for mainstreaming culture across the global development agenda. The campaign also aims to include culture as a distinct goal in the post-2030 development framework.

This year Culture Action Europe Secretary General, Tere Badia, will represent CAE and the #Culture2030 Goal at the Mondiacult 2022 conference during two side events. Anyone in the CAE network who would like to attend is welcome. Find the full details and registration information for the Mondiacult event here.

27 September 2022 | Shaping a Culture Goal in the Post-2030 Sustainable Agenda

14.00 – 17.00 (GMT-5)

Venue: Anfiteatro Simón Bolívar, Colegio de San Ildefonso, Mexico City

MONDIACULT 2022 is focused on culture and sustainable development policies. Yet for all that we in the culture sector know the difference we make, it remains the case that culture is under-valued and under-appreciated at the level of the global development agenda – the UN’s 2030 Agenda. This side event will present and discuss a Zero-draft of a future Culture Goal, as prepared by major global cultural networks, working together through the Culture 2030 Goal campaign. Based on expert inputs and a survey of actors across the field, the draft Goal will allow for a new focus in efforts to ensure that culture takes its place at the heart of development planning.

28 September 2022 | From Policy to Practice: The Role of Culture in the 2030 Agenda and Beyond

15.00 – 16.00 (GMT-5)

Venue: Los Pinos, Cencalli, second floor

To contribute to a better understanding of the linkages between policy and practice, this side event will present two outcomes. On the policy side, a Zero-draft of a future Culture Goal, prepared by major global cultural networks – forming the Culture 2030 Goal campaign – will be presented. The draft allows for a new focus to ensure that culture is placed at the heart of development planning.

In terms of practice, a new #CultureForSDGs Toolkit that acts as a practical guide to the UN’s SDGs for Cultural Institutions and Organizations in Canada will be presented. The toolkit was developed by a working group convened by the Canadian Commission for Unesco.
