CAE and its partners in the campaign ‘The Future We Want includes Culture’ have released a communiqué (available in English, French and Spanish) coinciding with the Special Summit on Sustainable Development to be held in New York on September 25-27. During this summit, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 70) will adopt the Outcome Document ‘Transforming Our World: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development’.
The campaigners welcome the achievements of the UN processes that led to the Outcome Document were regional, national and local organizations and civil society actors were able to discuss their vision for sustainable development. However the campaign leaders highlight their concerns as the document falls short of a full understanding and affirmation of the importance of culture to sustainable development.
As global leaders prepare to adopt the SDG Outcome Document, campaign members present the next steps to pursue their demands.
