Belonging and Becoming is the title of the October issue of Culture Action Europe’s newsletter. Editorial from Robert Manchin, CAE president, focuses on the concepts of belonging, European identity, our shared European heritage and shared European future.
“Most of us are engaged in essentially intercultural monologues. For dialogues we need more respect, humility and willingness to listen, and to practice empathy. The dialogue of heritages is an ideal for which we need all the creative thinking available to encourage social innovation. Heritage, without a sustaining community, is nothing more than a commercial product. To produce meaning and community it needs a dialogue both within European cultural traditions and a vibrant exchange with other cultural traditions, inspiring understanding and respect for each other, that is to say, intercultural dialogue”, says Mr. Manchin.
