BOZAR
Urban development and public space: Culture as a driver for cities.

at Bozar, Brussels, Belgium
June 4, 2015

In the framework of  the 8th EU-LAC Summit, gathering EU as well as Latin America and Caribbean countries happening in Brussels in a few weeks, Culture Action Europe’s member BOZAR is hosting a debate on the role of culture in urban development and public space. The debate will gather European and South American speakers from the political world, international organisations and architects.

Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean share a common history and culture. Cities in the two regions have a great potential for the development of our societies and the question of urban development is a central question for both regions. The debate will therefore deal with sustainable urban development thanks to the alliance of economic development, social cohesion and sustainability, but also of “culture as a seed for the cities of tomorrow”.

In addition to this final debate, round-tables will be organised on the same day. Participants will discuss topics such as the role of culture in shaping cities and strengthening the social dimension of sustainable urban development, or the potential cultural and innovative cities to contribute to urban and economic development.
Culture Action Europe’s Chairwoman, Mercedes Giovinazzo will moderate these round-tables.
