Climate Action: Music as a Driver for Change

After having cancelled the European Forum on Music 2020 (EFM) – due to the Covid-19 crisis – the EMC has decided to put a series of events online to discuss with musical artists, policy makers and environmental experts how music activities can contribute to the protection of our environment. While the Covid-19 crisis puts enormous pressure on the music sector at large, it is clearer than before that any way out needs to put attention to environmental aspects.

The EFM Online Series will ask how the music sector can act more eco-friendly, how music can help raise awareness for the need of climate action in general, and how the music sector can support activists in their efforts to put environmental issues high on the political agendas.

These series are supported by EMC funders and by NAMM.

On 5 June, World Environment Day, this panel discussion brought together musical artists with an ecological mindset and political decision makers from the EU to debate framework conditions for artists and their audience in order to respect the environment, be artistically active and reach out to the audiences.

Speakers:
♦ Mariya Gabriel, Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture and Youth
♦ Mohamed Jawad, Artist & Activist
♦ Sabine Verheyen, MEP, Chair of Culture and Education Committee
♦ Darius Darek, Artist & Activist

Moderator:
♦ Helga Trüpel, Former member of the European Parliament
