Trans-Inclusive Culture
The Research Centre for Museums and Galleries (RCMG) at the University of Leicester has launched Trans-Inclusive Culture: Guiding on advancing trans inclusion for museums, galleries, archives and heritage organisations.
A new sector-wide guidance designed to help museums, galleries, archives, and heritage organisations advance trans inclusion with confidence, clarity, and care. Developed in collaboration with legal experts, trans inclusion specialists, equality practitioners, and ethicists, the guidance addresses widespread uncertainty across the cultural sector by offering practical, values-led approaches to inclusive practice.
It responds to growing concern from professionals about how best to support trans individuals in their organisations and programming, especially in the face of rising polarisation and misinformation. The guidance provides practical tools, real-world scenarios, and ethical frameworks to support inclusive programming, respectful collaboration with trans communities, and the creation of welcoming environments for all.
The project was created in partnership with Art Fund, the Association of Independent Museums (AIM), the Museums Association, and the School of Museum Studies at the University of Leicester, and supported by Museum Development UK and ICOM UK.
