The report “Cultural and creative sectors in Ukraine: resilience, recovery, and integration with the EU” provides an overview of the range of activities that took place in January-April 2024 as part of the Cultural Relations Platform, on behalf of the Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture of the European Commission.
How can culture and the cultural and creative sectors (CCS) navigate times of uncertainty? Following Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, the Ukrainian cultural and creative sectors have encountered extraordinary challenges. As Ukraine attempts to plan its course of action during this period of social and political turmoil and change, it has become essential to understand and aid these sectors.
In response to this need, the Cultural Relations Platform has launched several actions in order to better grasp and analyze the cultural landscape in Ukraine. The report gathers useful insights and recommendations grouped thematically around the following themes: social cohesion, regional development, economic growth, resilience and recovery, EU-Ukraine integration.
An interesting read for anyone, this report shines a light on the value and need for culture in times of war and unrest. It can help all stakeholders involved in the CCS understand culture’s role in the recovery and integration of countries and nations in crisis.
