BE UNIT: recommendations to boost employability and cultural participation in the audiovisual sector

BE UNIT, an Erasmus+ funded project led by Pour la Solidarité focused on improving the employability and active citizenship of young adults in the audiovisual sector, have released an advocacy paper including a series of recommendations calling for the reduction of barriers to cultural participation.

The paper, which was co-created with the young professionals involved with the BE UNIT project, highlights that:

  • strong qualifications do not necessarily lead to stable employment in the audiovisual sector;
  • cinema and the audiovisual culture can play a key role in promoting democratic values, dialogue, and mutual understanding among young Europeans; and
  • access to culture remains unequal.

Recommendations for decision-makers in the publication include:

  • reducing barriers to cultural participation, particularly relating to structural and socioeconomic barriers;
  • engaging new audiences in film and culture;
  • strengthening young people’s employability in the audiovisual sector; and
  • embracing cinema and the arts as a tool for promoting intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding.
