United Cities and Local Governments (UCLG), which represent over 1000 cities across 95 countries, approved on 17 November 2010 – in the framework of the World Summit of Local and Regional Leaders held in Mexico -, a policy statement recognizing culture as the fourth pillar of sustainable development, next to economic growth, social inclusion and environmental balance. This important document is an additional resource for arts and culture advocates when engaging with policymakers at all levels of governance.
