2024 Voices: unveiling European citizens’ perspectives
Debating Europe has recently unveiled its latest report titled ‘2024 Voices – Citizens Speak Up!‘, in which it draws upon insights gathered from 2024 citizens across seven EU countries: Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, and Sweden. The report sheds light on the thoughts and sentiments of citizens regarding the pressing challenges confronting Europe, focusing on four pivotal themes:
→ Advancing the green transition
→ Enhancing democratic participation for all
→ Promoting inclusive and sustainable economic growth
→ Strengthening safety and resilience
In an era marked by mounting challenges and crises, ranging from climate change to technological advancements, economic uncertainties, and the proliferation of (mis)information, societal concerns have reached a critical juncture in the new millennium. Rising social inequalities have left citizens feeling marginalized, disenchanted, and disillusioned, as they perceive a disconnect between themselves and political leaders, with a lack of proactive solutions.
The report does not serve as a mere opinion collection; it serves as the foundation for an ongoing journey that extends into 2030 and beyond. This initiative underscores Friends of Europe’s commitment to crafting a Renewed Social Contract for Europe, centered on principles of fairness, inclusivity, and genuine responsiveness to citizen voices.
