We are looking for Comms and Policy & Politics Intern to join our team in Brussels!

Comms Intern Opening

Start date: 1 September 2019 (flexible)
Duration: 4 months (September-December)
Location: Brussels

Culture Action Europe (CAE) is looking for a dynamic, efficient, multi-skilled student and/or graduate in communications (Bachelor or Master’s) with a keen interest in culture and the arts and the EU policy and decision-making processes, community mobilization and event organization.

Who are we looking for?
• Students of communications, public relations, journalism and other related studies.
• Experience in using web based resources, including social media, web editors, content management system (CMS). Knowledge of HTML is a plus.
• Experience using Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign.
• Experience in events management;
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent written and spoken English; knowledge of other EU languages is a plus.
• Attention to details.
• Well-organised, practical-minded and able to prioritise a busy and varied workload.
• An independent, self-starter personality.
• Interest in European networks and membership-based organisations.

What will you do?
The successful candidate will work closely with our Communications and Community Director, and will assist the Policy and Operations Team when necessary. Interns attend team meetings and are involved in CAE activities.

Communications intern will be primarily involved in the following activities:
• Support implementation of communication actions (mailing design and drafting), including monthly News Digests and Newsletter
• Website maintenance and Social Media activity
• Monitor social media and contribute to social media strategy implementation
• Support implementation of new website and membership strategy
• In-house design of publications
• Event management: planning, logistics and communication
• Attending key events
• Conduct research

• Obtain practical knowledge on running a members-based organisation
• Develop a solid understanding of external communications practices and practical knowledge of communication tools and softwares
• Experience high-profile events management first hand (travel to and participation in Culture Action Europe’s annual gathering in Konstanz-Kreuzlingen, 20-26 October 2019)
• Gain a thorough insight into the workings of NGO communications and advocacy in Brussels and at European level

Priority will be given to students wishing to combine academic research in the course of their studies and the internship and to students coming with an Erasmus+ grant or equivalent. A modest financial contribution towards costs linked to the execution of the internship will be provided, but the ability to source additional funding is an advantage.

Politics & Policy Intern Opening

Is your background in Political Science and/or culture? Do you want to work for a vibrant European cultural network in Brussels? Are you interested in research, politics and cultural policies?

Politics and Policy interns should be interested in research activities, content creation and distribution. Applicants are expected to be able to process and analyse large quantities of information in the field of cultural policies, condense information into policy outlines.

Who are we looking for?

The applicant should:

  • Be interested in Cultural Policies and European Politics
  • Be available for 4 months
  • Have good organisational skills and an eye for detail
  • Be based in Brussels
  • Have strong research and writing skills
  • A demonstrated interest in freedom of artistic expression, labour and working conditions in the cultural sector and/or artistic research would be advantageous
  • Fluent spoken and written English, French and/or other European languages is an asset

What will you do?

The main tasks are:

  • Support the drafting of articles, statements, positions etc.
  • News monitoring
  • Support with the organisation of meetings and events
  • Preparation of presentations and carrying out initial research
  • Report from events organised by institutions and other stakeholders
