International Symposium on European Law and Cultural Policies

October 15, 2013, 12:25 pm

On 15 November, the Research Center of the University of Louvain and the European Studies Institute of the University of Saint-Louis will organize the International Symposium on European Law and Cultural Policies.

The International Symposium aims at clarifying the interactions between European law and cultural policies on the basis of three questions. The first deals with the scope of the “cultural competences” of the European Union and their connection with the building of a European cultural identity or with the promotion and protection of national cultural policies. The second regards the processes by which European law in general takes into account cultural considerations, whether in the positive integration or in the negative one. The third one consists in a legal evaluation of the effects of European law on the question of culture. The last part aims at assessing, from a politologist point of view, those effects, notably towards national cultural policies.
