IN SITU Report: “Socioeconomic contributions and spillovers of CCIs in non-urban regions”

Project IN SITU: Place-based innovation of cultural and creative industries in non urban areas has completed and published the report “Socioeconomic contributions and spillovers of CCIs in non-urban regions”.

Cultural and creative workers are often at the forefront of generating new ideas. They can be found in almost all industries of the economy, supporting innovation at different stages of the process. In addition to contributing to innovation by building bridges and inspiring new ideas to do things, they are spread in practically all regions, being a better parameter for non-urban regions.
Aiming to assess the socio-economic contribution of creative and cultural workers to innovation in non-urban regions, the report is divided into two parts. In the first part the report focuses on combining patents and trademarks as regional innovation metrics – to capture innovation more broadly and at different stages of technological development – and look at regions by separating them by urbanisation level (urban and non-urban, including intermediate and rural regions). In the second part, the report investogates the extent to which collective trademarks could be used as original and complementary metrics to other available economic and innovation indicators.
