Green Music Festivals in Europe: Sustainability Strategies, Practices and Certification

Our member ENCATC has just published a new book by researcher Giada Calvano on environmental sustainability in music festivals across Northern and Southern Europe.

Drawing on surveys, expert interviews and contextual research, it looks at practices in mobility, energy, waste, water and procurement, as well as strategies, decision-making and certification. Moving beyond individual case studies and best practices, the book explores how festival characteristics—including size, budget, ownership, age, genre, and territorial context-shape approaches to environmental sustainability. It offers valuable insights for researchers, festival organisers, sustainability managers, policymakers, and other professionals working at the intersection of culture and sustainability.
