Artificial Intelligence and International Cultural Relations: Challenges and Opportunities for Cross-Sectoral Collaboration
The rapid rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping international cultural relations, interweaving technology with global cultural dynamics. As AI influences the cultural sector and international relations, institutions and actors must navigate this new landscape with an emphasis on ethical and responsible technology use. Addressing the imbalances that AI systems can create is essential. Putting in place a strategy for engaging in international cultural relations in the AI era involves more than just adapting to new tools; it requires safeguarding democratic values and human rights within this evolving technopolitical context.
This study, part of ifa’s Research Programme ‘Culture and Foreign Policy,’ invites experts, academics, practitioners, policymakers, and civil society to participate in this crucial dialogue and contemplate on the future of cultural relations in the era of AI. The goal is to create informed knowledge spaces and foster discussions that ensure AI’s integration into cultural practices supports, rather than undermines, global cultural relations.
