Ars Electronica Festival: Facing Uncertainty and its Discontent
Ars Electronica is hosting the Festival for Art, Technology and Science from September 9 – 13. The theme, “Uncertainty and Ecology,” will underpin conversations regarding the diversity of ways in which the arts, sciences, technologies are facing the endless possibilities of a time marked by a global pandemic.
“Going from the unexpected, the changing of life in all its aspects with its accidents and catastrophes, to the ecology, and its systemic interaction between biotic and abiotic factors, we need to address all human and non-human agents which are populating and constructing the environment. In this will to interconnect politics with technology and nature the city of Barcelona, within Catalonia, is here presented through a network of heterogeneous agents made of individuals, nodes, clusters or hubs connecting between each other and to the world.”
As part of the week-long event, Culture Action Europe’s Secretary General, Tere Badia, spoke on a panel entitled, “Facing Uncertainty and its Discontent.” Along with Pau Alsina, Roc Parés, Marina Garcés, Joan Soler-Adillon, and Pau Waelder, the panelists spoke over how to take risks in times of uncertainty, as well as how arts, sciences, and technologies have gained knowledge from times of uncertainty. The panel explored diverse approaches to the approach of unpredictability in a global context.
