Action Group on Digital and AI: AI Strategy for the CCS (2nd Meeting)
The Action Group on Digital & AI is a joint advocacy group facilitated by Culture Action Europe and Michael Culture Association, bringing together cultural institutions, artists, and digital experts from across Europe’s Cultural and Creative Sectors. Our mission is to ensure that digital and AI policies are developed in an ethical, human-centred way, reflecting the values and realities of cultural professionals. The group’s work is grounded in a mission statement co-created through surveys and workshops conducted with members since Autumn 2024. (See here for more information).
Our next meeting will take place Thursday 2 April 2026: why are we meeting?
The European Commission is currently developing its AI Strategy for the Cultural and Creative Sectors, as part of the Culture Compass framework. The strategy is in the initial drafting stages, and the Commission is seeking civil society input. This is precisely the moment the Action Group was built for.
Our first meeting, held on 25 February 2026, brought members from both organisations together to identify key topics, priorities, and recommendations for this strategy. Since then, the facilitation team has been drafting a position paper that captures the collective input from that session.
On Thursday, April 2, from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM (CET), we will reconvene to review this draft chapter by chapter, refine its content, and ensure no critical perspectives are missing before submission. Our provisional timeline for the strategy is as follows:
- 25 February: First Action Group meeting; key themes identified
- Late March: Draft position paper circulated to all members for written feedback
- 2 April: Second meeting to review and finalise the document
- Mid April: Final position paper submitted to DG EAC, ahead of the Easter break
The Digital and AI Action Group is open only to MCA and CAE members. For any questions or requests for participation, please contact the group’s facilitators: Marco Fiore (marco.fiore[at]michael-culture.eu) and Rhys Nugent (rhys@cultureactioneurope.org).
