Funding Culture for a Changing World by The Nordic Culture Fund

A new two-volume publication series entitled Funding Culture for a Changing World has been launched by the Nordic Culture Fund, authored by Elena Polivtseva. The series reflects on the future of international cultural cooperation and the need to rethink funding models in a rapidly changing global context.

The publication builds on the concrete learning trajectory of Globus, the Fund’s thematic initiative (2020–2025), which tested new approaches to supporting cultural collaboration beyond the Nordic region through more experimental and trust-based funding practices.

In addition to offering an evaluation of the initiative, the two volumes contribute to broader policy and sector-wide discussions on cultural funding and international cultural relations:

Volume 1: Learning from the Globus Experiment
This volume presents key lessons from the Globus initiative, highlighting its role as a trust-based funding scheme that sought to shift from a project-centred logic towards one focused on long-term relationship-building. It also explores how transnational collaboration takes shape when cultural actors define “Nordic relevance” on their own terms.

Volume 2: Trends, Contexts, Pathways
This volume situates the Globus experience within a wider European and international context. It analyses key policy trends shaping global cultural cooperation, identifies emerging needs across the sector, and highlights innovative funding practices in Europe responding to these developments.

Together, the two reports offer forward-looking insights and recommendations on how to develop more relevant, responsive, and future-oriented funding models for cross-border cultural collaboration.
