CAE contributes to the CoR consultation

Culture Action Europe has contributed to the consultation on the Restart of the Cultural and Creative Sectors initiated by the European Committee of the Regions.

Acknowledging the devastating impact of COVID-19-related measures on the cultural and creative sectors in all parts of Europe, the European Committee of the Regions (CoR) intends to address this question in an own-initiative opinion on the Restart of the Cultural and Creative Sectors. The initiative was proposed by the Commission for Social Policy, Education, Employment, Research and Culture (SEDEC) and approved by the CoR Bureau on September 11. With Giuseppe Varacalli (IT/Renew Europe) appointed as its rapporteur, the draft of the Opinion will be presented in front of the SEDEC on November 25.

The opinion aims at raising its supportive voice to the efforts made by the European CCSs in order to counter the unprecedented crisis on the local and regional levels. Furthermore, the Opinion is envisioned as the SEDEC’s advocacy for putting culture and its needs more prominently on the agenda of the upcoming Future of Europe conference.  To enrich the opinion with perceptions from the regional and local levels, the rapporteur Mr. Varacalli invited organisations and associations working in the field of CCS to share their knowledge and reflections on how the EU could support the sector in times of crisis as well as in its aftermath.

Culture Action Europe has contributed to the consultation with the expertise collected throughout the year from targeted surveys as well as from its members. Culture Action Europe’s submission is available here.
