On the Move: Report on Accessibility Barriers in Higher Education for Performing Arts
On the Move recently published a new report entitled ‘The Role of Educational Institutions in Fostering Accessibility for Disabled Artists & Culture Professionals in Europe,’ which “examines accessibility barriers faced by disabled people in higher education performing arts institutions across Creative Europe countries and the UK.” It was released within the context of the Europe Beyond Access project on the International Day of People with Disabilities and was accompanied by an online discussion (watchable here) to launch and introduce the research.
Among other things, the report outlines:
- systemic barriers faced in higher education for people with disabilities;
- a strong link between educational access and career outcomes for people with disabilities;
- insufficient institutional responses and gaps in support for people with disabilities; and
- examples of alternative approaches to be embraced and institutions leading the way in access.
