NEMO Releases Guidelines on Climate Protection in Museums
The NEMO Working Group Sustainability and Climate Action has published guidelines to assist museums in addressing climate change and sustainability. These guidelines offer practical solutions and a checklist for conducting climate impact assessments, integrating sustainability practices, and educating on climate change.
Suitable for museums at all stages of their sustainability journey, they cover initiation, organization, action, and societal impact. A checklist summarizes the guidelines, aiding museums in assessing their efforts and receiving tailored advice.
In four main sections, the reader will learn how to strategically initiate the sustainability process (Get started), which organisational measurements to take (Organise), which fields of action to choose (Act) and how to create a positive change in society (Mobilise).
Estelle De Bryun, leader of the working group, emphasizes the role of museums in sustainable transitions, stressing the need for collaborative efforts involving the public and policymakers. This marks the first output of NEMO’s Sustainability and Climate Action group, demonstrating a commitment to international cooperation and accessibility for museum professionals across Europe.
