IFACCA publication ahead of MONDIACULT: Pathways to harness the values of culture
IFACCA released a dossier for MONDIACULT 2022 on pathways to harness the values of culture urging for maintenance of the cultural and creative sectors in the face of global challenges. IFACCA calls for a sustainable and inclusive future for the CCSs.
It is evident from the most recent global crises that culture is an essential yet fragile asset. When policy and regulatory frameworks cannot protect cultural and creative sectors from turmoil, the sectors’ most vital component – their workforce – can be lost. Developing a new paradigm for cultural policy and the role culture should play in the post-2030 sustainability agenda requires addressing existing fault lines and challenging the status quo; re-building outdated frameworks and addressing their biggest weakness, the decrease of value.
The social and economic values of culture must be recognized if we are to shape a robust and forward-looking vision for cultural policies in the future.
Culture too plays an important role in shaping society, but we need tangible recognition that gives the role due prominence and improves the conditions of the cultural workforce. For the cultural ecosystem to thrive, develop and continue to add value to public life, a comprehensive and sustainable framework is required. Culture’s symbolic value must be translated into action.
