Cultural Mobility Flows: The International Mobility of Disabled Artists and Culture Professionals

On the Move‘s latest publication is an in-depth exploration of all topics related to international cultural mobility of disabled artists and arts professionals.

This publication follows On the Move’s Cultural Mobility Webinar on the “International Mobility of Disabled Artists and Culture Professionals” and builds upon two extensive studies conducted for the British Council as part of the EU-funded project Europe Beyond Access: “Time to Act: How lack of knowledge in the cultural sector creates barriers for disabled artists and audiences” (2021) and “Time to Act: Two Years On, Data-led Insights on Performing Arts and Disability in Europe” (2023). It also incorporates insights from recent online and in-person initiatives by On the Move members aimed at raising awareness of the specific conditions and needs of disabled artists and arts workers.

The publication includes an analysis of all cultural mobility opportunities for disabled artists posted on the On the Move website since January 2020, as well as insights and experts’ opinions on the challenges and potential solutions for disabled artists seeking international opportunities. It offers a useful overview of recent literature related to factors influencing the professional development and international mobility of disabled artists, along with recommendations for cultural stakeholders, supported by policy documents, research reports, and practical examples of relevant initiatives and toolkits.
