A journal to imagine a future beyond the nation state

The European Alternatives Journal is a publication that hopes for a fair, democratic, and inclusive Europe. Read about Transeuropa Festival, Democratic Odyssey, citizenship education, Feminist mobilisation and much more.

This new issue showcases the creativity, transformation, initiatives, campaigns, and teamwork that have defined EA’s universe over the past years, through the virtuous alignment of its five “planets”:

Imagine – A space for creative self-expression, fostering new ideas, stories, and democratic models to make political spaces more accessible and joyful.

Train – Focuses on developing skills and methodologies to drive transformative change in political institutions, society, and the economy, strengthening long-term learning infrastructure and improving organizational resilience.

Assemble – Creates spaces for collaboration and citizen participation, particularly through citizen assemblies, where people can engage in discussions and co-create solutions for democracy.

Act – Advocates for democracy, equality, and shared power by supporting activism and forging partnerships to amplify demands from frontline communities, particularly around equity, justice, and sustainability.

Learn – Gathers and synthesizes knowledge from all streams to build strategies and insights aimed at rethinking and achieving goals of democracy, equality, and culture beyond national borders.

Each stream contributes to a holistic approach for fostering a more inclusive, participatory, and transformative society.

In this issue, you will discover stories of international partnerships, democratic experiments, and community-driven projects that inspire us to envision, demand, and act on alternatives.
