Civil Society Week 2026 is taking place at the beginning of March and will bring together a wide range of voices, from grassroots activists and youth representatives to EU policymakers, journalists, and organised civil society across Europe. On Wednesday 4 March, a joint session between Democracy International, the European Partnership for Democracy and Culture Action Europe will take place entitled: Mind the Gaps: Completing the European Democracy Shield.

This session will focus on co-creating recommendations from civil society to guide the implementation of the EU’s European Democracy Shield, which includes a series of concrete measures to strengthen European democracy. Three simultaneous sessions will take place on different aspects of the strategy: citizen participation, information integrity, and societal resilience.

Culture Action Europe will be leading the workshop on societal resilience, taking a rights-based approach to creating recommendations with a particular focus on critical-thinking skills, culture, and digital and media literacy to strengthen social cohesion and societal resilience. Learn more, including the session’s guiding questions, on the official event page listed below.
