“Advocating networks today”

taking place:

from 11:00 to 15:00 at

Rue Ravenstein 23

Room, Terarken 1.

“Transnational cultural networks are where people are putting Europe into practice.(…) Networks are living proof of the determination to create flexible and dynamic structures that can adapt to the changing environment of Europe … as it prepares for the 21st century.” (!)
Written in a Culture Action Europe publication in 1996 (or rather: the then European Forum for Arts and Heritage-CAE’s former name), this message still rings true 20 years later.

Today, in our digitally “networked” world, we wish to seize the occasion of this anniversary to reflect with you again on issues central to networks:

  • What has changed for networks? What has remained the same? Where do we see ourselves in the future?
  • What challenges are we facing and what support do we need to ensure our sustainable development, remaining flexible and dynamic?
  • What do we need to powerfully advocate for cultural networks, in view also of network funding?
  • How can networks provide Europe with an inspiring model for collaborative decision making?

We are therefore inviting all the networks for an exploratory meeting on advocating cultural networks, to strengthen and transform the networks’ role and position on European and international level.

We are pleased to be joined by Ivor Davies, who will be researching and editing a resulting publication and Robert Manchin, CAE’s President, who will provide us with an insight into his research commissioned by CAE on networks today. The participants include both new networks and their staff- as well as experts who had joined us for the original publication 20 years ago.

But above all, we look forward to YOUR participation, visions and concerns.

Please tell us by Monday, 7 March 2016, if you shall be able to attend by sending an email to:
pol-head@cultureactioneurope.org.

We look forward to seeing you.
