30 examples of cultural spaces being reimagined

A catalogue of 30 examples of how cultural spaces in Europe are being reimagined for the future has been released by Eurocities. The new publication sheds light on how diverse cultural spaces are driving sustainable urban development and social cohesion in their cities.

The catalogue entitled ‘Future cultural spaces in cities: Emerging Trends’ was developed in the framework of of a three-day forum held earlier this year in Brno, Czechia, in which 147 participants from 61 cities and 21 countries from around Europe shared examples of cultural initiatives in their cities and regions under the theme ‘Spaces for vibrant cultural and creative scenes’ and sought to reimagine the future of cultural spaces. These discussions supported the identification of some of the main trends shaping the future of cultural spaces while showcasing how cities are rethinking culture as a foundation for resilient, inclusive and sustainable urban life.

With cultural spaces representing essential infrastructure, providing places where citizens can gather, artists create, and communities collectively imagine new futures, the catalogue provides plenty of food for thought on how the cultural spaces of the future could look.
