Lunchtime Session | Ways Forward for the Culture Compass

As the European Commission begins work on the Culture Compass, the EU’s new strategic framework for culture, Culture Action Europe is eager to collaborate and bring our insights to the table.

Over the past year, we have:

– conducted the State of Culture research;
– developed a position on the future of EU culture funding;
– hosted the Policy Conversation with high-level EU officials.

Now, we want to translate these insights into a policy scaffolding that positions culture as a sector in its own right.

This lunchtime presentation will explore how the Culture Compass can address key structural challenges, such as 1) the future-making role of culture; 2) artistic freedom and cultural democracy; 3) the instrumentalisation of culture and culture mainstreaming.

We will also share the draft of CAE’s upcoming advocacy campaign and invite discussion on the way forward.
