CAE Hub in the Netherlands
The Dutch Hub is also known as the Europaplatform. Coordinated by Kunsten ’92 (the national association for the arts in the Netherlands), the central aim of the Europaplatform is to advocate for strong European policies pertaining to the cultural, creative and heritage sectors. The hub directs its advocacy towards Dutch politicians at local, national and international level. Additionally, the hub acts as a conduit between Culture Action Europe and the Dutch cultural sector, collecting information to strengthen CAE’s European work, and translating CAE’s knowledge and campaigns to the Dutch context.
The Europaplatform is a working group with an informal character. A smaller ‘core’ group meets regularly to quickly share information, while the larger group is invited to share thoughts and opinions around more formally organised events throughout the year, often around Europe Day. The informal nature works well to manage expectations of workload, while being able to respond flexibly whenever current affairs require us to do so.
The hub is formed of several industry associations as well as Dutch cultural organisations that are active internationally. A full list of the active participants can be found on the overview page.
Our Goals
The central aim of the Europaplatform is to advocate for strong European policies pertaining to the cultural, creative and heritage sectors. The hub directs its advocacy towards Dutch politicians at local, national and international level.
What We Do
- Communicate the Cultural Deal for Europe to the Dutch sector, working collaboratively to highlighting specific areas of the Deal to the Dutch elected members of parliament.
- Improve working conditions for artists and cultural workers within the Netherlands and across borders, working with European colleagues to further develop knowledge around fair working practices.
- Draw up relevant materials in the run up to local, regional, national and European elections, highlighting the need for robust international cultural policy at every level of government.
- Support and translate Culture Action Europe’s campaigns to the Dutch context. For example:
- Calling on the Dutch government to earmark 2% of the COVID-19 Recovery and Resilience Fund for the cultural sector
- Asking newly voted-in Dutch MEP’s to place cultural at the heart of the EU’s political ambition
