Activating bottom-up coordination for the future of cultural policies in Europe
Hosted by: CAE Spain Hub, Ayuntamiento de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Cabildo de Gran Canaria
Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain
21-22 April·2026
The BEYOND Satellite in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is conceived as a space for collective reflection, exchange and practice, guided by the Culture Compass of the European Commission and the strategic priorities set up by Culture Action Europe as shared frameworks. The programme will explore how cultural practice, policy and civic engagement intersect in moments of social, territorial and democratic transformation, with a strong emphasis on listening, care and situated knowledge.
Special attention will be given to peripheral contexts and territories, both geographically and structurally, and to the ways communication, participation and cultural work operate from and within these spaces. The Satellite aims to bring together voices from different regions, particularly Southern and Atlantic contexts, to reflect on socially engaged arts, cultural cooperation and new narratives for Europe, while remaining deeply rooted in the local realities of Gran Canaria. It will aim at articulating the basis for a collective and bottom-up structure for policy advocacy across the many territories of Europe.
