Hosting a Satellite BEYOND

In the period from September 2025 to August 2026, six Satellite BEYOND events will take place across Europe, each hosted in the following regions:

  • North: Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Sweden, United Kingdom
  • West: Belgium, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Switzerland
  • Centre: Austria, Czechia, Hungary, Poland, Slovakia
  • South-West: Italy, Malta, Portugal, Spain
  • South-East: Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Greece, Macedonia, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia
  • East: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova, Türkiye, Ukraine

These regional editions contribute to:

  • Support decentralisation and regional cultural development
  • Broaden participation and access
  • Lower environmental impact by reducing long-distance travel

The Satellite BEYOND editions are hosted by Culture Action Europe members in possible collaboration with other local and regional stakeholders, whether or not they are part of the Culture Action Europe network.

Each event will rotate between countries within the region and is overseen by a local host, with support from Culture Action Europe (CAE) on methodology, communication, content, and speakers (if needed). Local organisers are responsible for logistics.

Minimum requirements

Each Satellite BEYOND is expected to:

  • Run for a minimum of 1.5 days
  • Attract at least 50 participants from the region (in person)
  • Engage a mix of cultural stakeholders, project representatives, and local/regional policymakers
  • Contribution to a collective communication campaign that will take place across all satellites and connect to the central BEYOND

The format is open and adaptable—organisers can choose from methods such as unconferences, open space discussions, design sprints, or other creative formats.

Organisers are encouraged to secure local funding and sponsorship, but can also access up to €2,000 from the ACT project to support the event. A brief report, programme, and photos should be submitted to CAE following the event.

CAE central office support

As part of its commitment to the success of the satellite events, the CAE Central Office will offer dedicated support in several key areas:

  • Assist with the overall content development of the satellite events.
  • Support the identification and invitation of speakers and contributors.
  • Ensure regional dissemination of the events across:
    • CAE members network
    • CAE communication channels (e.g., newsletters, social media, website)
  • Provide mobility support for up to two CAE staff or board members to:
    • Attend the satellite events
    • Contribute actively if and where needed

Additionally, as mentioned above, CAE will release up to €2,000 seed funding to support each Satellite event.

Possible Satellite Topics

The following is a list of possible thematic focuses. They are all related to the CAE strategy or overall advocacy efforts that we see across our sectors. Please treat them not as prescriptive, but rather as a starting point for your thinking.

At Culture Action Europe, we feel a responsibility for our sectors to reimagine our shared futures. Therefore, we encourage a radical, out-of-the-box approach to thematically frame your Satellite: think beyond the status quo and push boundaries. Let’s be more surprising and make room to be surprised.

  • Cultural Democracy and Ethical Leadership
  • Socially Engaged Arts
  • Impact and Evaluation
  • Funding for Culture
  • Freedom of Artistic Expression and the Autonomy of the Sector
  • Sustainability
  • Culture, Wellbeing and Health
  • Accessibility, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
  • Cultural Rights
  • Urban/Rural interplay
  • Access to and participation in culture
  • Artistic Research and Artistic Intelligence
  • AI and Digital
