Engaging with SWANA cultural agents in the EU
Past project
“Engaging with SWANA cultural agents in the EU” is a one-year project implemented by Culture Action Europe (CAE). The project aims at raising awareness about the specific circumstances of SWANA – the South West Asia and North Africa – cultural agents residing in the European Union, with a particular focus on the (post) COVID-19 context; it also looks into strengthening collaboration between SWANA cultural professionals in Europe and their European peers. The project specifically addresses artists, cultural workers, and cultural organisations from the SWANA region that are living and working in the countries of the European Union.
Through its large network, Culture Action Europe will identify activities and projects involving SWANA cultural agents residing and working in the EU. The project will engage with a wide group of artists and organisations, representing different countries of origin and residence, cultural sectors, and genders. The research phase of the project will scrutinise the particular circumstances, realities and patterns of SWANA cultural agents residing and working in the EU, in particular focusing on whether their position is recognised within host countries’ societies and legal and social systems and investigating if the pandemic has increased the systematic vulnerability of these groups. The research phase will lead to the formulation of policy recommendations and advocacy actions, mainly addressed to European institutions.
The project also aims at strengthening networking and knowledge sharing among the SWANA cultural agents living in Europe and their European counterparts.
