Cultural Deal for Europe: an open letter ahead of the EP elections 2024
In the framework of the Culture Deal for Europe Campaign, Culture Action Europe and our partners from the European Cultural Foundation and Europa Nostra address with a new joint appeal the sitting and hopeful Members of the European Parliament, as well as the European political parties. Ahead of the European elections scheduled on 6-9 June, we call on them to make sure that culture is placed at the heart of Europe’s future.
“With Europe’s solidarity put to the test, revisiting and reinforcing our Cultural Deal for Europe’s call to action is more important than ever. As cultural advocates and dedicated Europeans, we are calling for culture to be prominently featured in the 2024 electoral campaigns: in political groups’ programmes and in public conversations with Europeans about the future of our continent,”– reads the letter. Cultural Deal for Europe campaigners call on Members of the European Parliament, members of the European parties, candidates of the 2024 elections as well as cultural stakeholders to support the plea by signing up to the calls of the #CulturalDealEU.
With just a few days remaining until the important European elections, we reaffirm our commitment to mobilising future MEPs and the cultural and creative sectors to support our campaign, joining the over 1,000 organisations that have already endorsed it.
To amplify our message, we have conducted interviews with a diverse group of individuals, asking them what culture means to them:
We also directed our endorsement to MEP Sabine Verheyen, who helped amplify our message in the following video:
